CA/CTA Joint Programme

ICAS and the CIOT work in partnership to allow students to gain membership of the two bodies in as little as three and a half years. The Joint Programme allows students to specialise in one of two areas of tax.

CA CTA Joint Programme 2026+

The CA CTA Joint Programme is changing. Registrations for the revised programme will open in Spring 2026.

All students will be required to undertake the following CTA-specific assessments as part of the CA CTA Joint Programme 2026+:

  • CTA: Professional Responsibilities and Ethics
  • CTA: Tax Knowledge and Skills – Direct tax or Indirect tax
  • CTA: one Advanced level paper, either an Advanced Technical or Application and Professional Skills paper

The following information is for the CA CTA Joint Programme that is in place up to and including the May 2026 CTA exam session.

How it works

Under the Joint Programme, you sit 12 of the 13 CA papers, a CTA Advanced Technical exam, and the CTA Professional Responsibilities & Ethics CBE. You then choose a CTA Advanced Technical exam, CTA Application & Professional Skills case study or CIOT ADIT exam.

  • You must register first as a CA student before you can apply for the Joint Programme
  • When you have received your CA student number, you can register with the CIOT

 

In England & Wales the CTA elements of the programme will be delivered by Tolley Exam Training. ICAS and Tolley Exam Training have a specific agreement in place to jointly deliver the CTA elements in Scotland. The learning materials and support for the CTA papers will be provided by Tolley Exam Training and will be delivered by ICAS or Tolley Exam Training tutors online.
