  • You must register first as an ACA student before you can apply for the Joint Programme
  • When you have received your ACA student number, you can register with the CIOT
  • You must choose which additional CIOT paper to do for your Joint Programme

Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I do the joint programme, rather than pass the qualifications individually?

The programme cuts down the number of papers, saving you time while allowing you to achieve both qualifications. It also allows you to specialise in tax from the start of your studies.

When do I become an ICAEW/CIOT member?

The rules around becoming a member of the ICAEW and CIOT remain the same, regardless of the route chosen. Students can apply for membership once they have three years’ relevant professional experience and have passed the relevant papers.

What modules do I need to study?

You need to study 14 out of the 15 ACA modules and choose one specialist CTA Advisory Paper. The CTA Specialist paper is sat instead the ACA Professional Level Business Planning: Taxation module.

How long does the Joint Programme take to complete?

Students can take as little as three to four years to complete the Joint Programme, depending on work load, course dates and exam results. Less time is spent out the office and more on studies relevant to your employment.
