John returned to the Bar in 2014, having spent 20 years in private practice as a solicitor in both magic circle and US firms, most recently having established the London tax group of Ropes & Gray.

 

He has a broad experience in corporate and financial tax issues, and has acted for FTSE100 companies, investment banks, private equity funds, private companies, and entrepreneurs and management teams.

 

He has been recognized as a leading practitioner by Chambers UK, Chambers Europe and Chambers Global directories as a solicitor, and now by the Legal 500 as a barrister.

 

In his career John has acted in most areas of corporate tax practice, including public company M&A, reorganisations and reconstructions, asset and structured finance, securitisations, private equity funds and transactions, and tax in relation to entrepreneurs and management teams. At the Bar he deals with both advisory and dispute work. He acts for a wide range of solicitors and accountants and is happy to accept work directly from in-house professionals.
