    Biography:

    Robert is an expert in UK employment tax matters for employers with UK based employees, including UK employees working overseas, and overseas employees coming to the UK. He has extensive experience of advising clients with regards to PAYE matters, employee benefits and social security as well as employment related payments outside the payroll functions such as termination settlements and payments to consultants and other non-payroll labour.

    After graduating in Politics and Law from the University of Southampton, Robert started his tax career at HMRC as an employer compliance officer undertaking enquiries into employers' expenses and benefits systems before moving into a large international practice and then into the Big 4. Here he assisted with tax investigations, flexible benefits planning, employment tax compliance and international social security.

    Robert has presented to various audiences and has had a number of articles published in various magazines on employment tax matters.

    Robert is a fully qualified member of both the Association of Taxation Technicians (ATT) and the Chartered Institute of Taxation (CTA).

    Biography:

    Jonathan joined the Exam Training team at Tolley in July 2015 and teaches on courses across all of the tax qualifications and is Head of Leeds Centre.

    Jonathan trained as a Chartered Accountant and Chartered Tax Adviser with Hodgson Harris in Hull, qualifying in 1986 and 1988 and then moved into training.

    He was a regular speaker for the Government Finance Profession Senior Conference and delivered bespoke courses for clients in industry.

    He also presents seminars regularly and delivers tailored training sessions to clients, as well as writing for a variety of publications.

    Jonathan is an enthusiastic and competitive tennis player, but alas not very good, he is also a devout skier. Desperate to find a cheaper sport he has rather naively taken up scuba diving and golf.

    Biography:

    Kiran specialises in executive remuneration and incentives matters.

    Kiran advises on the establishment and operation of a wide range of cash and share-based incentive arrangements for both listed and private clients in the UK and globally.  She also works with clients on the remuneration aspects of executive recruitments and terminations and advises on corporate governance issues and compliance.

    In addition, Kiran advises clients on the incentive plan aspects of transactions, including takeovers, IPOs, schemes of arrangement, rights issues, demergers and schemes of arrangement.

    Kiran is a member of the Share Plan Lawyers group and of ProShare focus groups.  She is also a contributor to Revenue Law – Principles and Practice on the taxation of share plans.

    Biography:

    Claire started tutoring students whilst at University studying for a Maths degree.

    She joined Deloitte in 2003 where she worked in the Expatriate Tax team dealing with secondments to and from the UK. Whilst working at Deloitte, Claire studied both ATT and CTA and also continued to tutor GCSE/A Level maths students in her spare time.

    Given her love of tax and teaching, after qualifying for CTA Claire joined BPP where she trained students in ATT, CTA, ICAEW,ACCA and AAT qualifications. She was also involved in producing materials for the ATT and CTA courses.

    Claire is known for bringing her wacky methods into classrooms and in June 2009 she had her maths notes published into a GCSE textbook 'Maths the Wacky Way'. Claire also has popular videos on YouTube to assist maths students.

    In early 2011, she joined the Tolley Exam Training team and teaches across the CTA and ATT qualifications in our London venue. Claire is also head of our online courses, looking after the OTL courses and the Tolley Academy.

    Philip Bond trained in Birmingham, UK with Coopers & Lybrand (PwC) in corporate and international tax.     Biography:

    Papa Bathie Gueye holds the US CPA and a Master of Science in Taxation from the Lubin School of Business at Pace University in New York. With professional experience both in the United States and the OHADA region, he manages a team of 24 professionals at the public accounting firm located in Senegal with reach in most of Francophone West Africa. As a member of the AICPA since 2012 and the Chartered Accountancy Board of Senegal (ONECCA) since 2014 Papa has extensive experience in the accounting, tax and legal landscape.

    Papa is bilingual in French and English, and is well-versed in both Senegalese and US accounting standards and tax laws, as well as international tax. He is also familiar with US GAAP and IFRS, and was a speaker at the 2017 African Congress Of Accountants (ACOA) in Uganda where he discussed the implementation of IFRS standards in Africa.

    By working for an international accounting network in Senegal for almost a decade Papa has represented clients large and small and has been instrumental in supporting many branches and subsidiaries of foreign companies navigate the uncertain and changing landscape of tax law in West Africa.

    Papa has hands-on experience with local administrative procedures and legislation affecting clients in the oil and gas industry, telecommunications, infrastructure, financial services and NGO sectors, and prides himself on staying ahead of the law’s frequent changes.

    Biography:

    Peter Rayney practises as an independent tax consultant, advising owner-managed companies, accountants, lawyers and tax practitioners on a wide range of tax issues. He was previously with BDO for nearly 20 years and during the last five years he was BDO’s National Tax Technical Partner.

    Peter specialises in corporate tax and corporate finance tax including company sales and acquisitions (including MBOs), reconstructions and all aspects of owner managed business taxation. He is a tax lecturer and regularly contributes tax articles to the professional press.

    Peter is an author and contributor to a number of books, including Tolley's Tax Planning, Rayney's Corporate Tax and Tax Planning for Family and Owner Managed Companies. He was awarded the Chartered Institute of Taxation’s Fellowship Thesis prize in 1994. He has won the prestigious Taxation ‘Tax Writer of the Year’ award an unprecedented three times.

    Peter chairs the ICAEW Tax Faculty Technical Committee and is a former President of the Chartered Institute of Taxation.

    Michael is an independent consultant with more than 30 years’ experience. He focuses on transparency, anti-corruption and good governance issues. He is also a political risk and stakeholder engagement expert with a focus on the Middle East. His book on Gaza will be published in the near future. He has worked for Middle East Broadcasting Centre, Control Risks Group, the Eurasia Group and for the international gas company BG Group as an international government relations manager in Egypt, Oman and Gaza. At BG Group, he was also responsible for the transparency agenda, especially the Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative (EITI). He has also lived, worked and travelled extensively in the Middle East, advising companies on assessing and mitigating political risk in the region. Michael studied Arabic at the University of Edinburgh where he gained an MA (Hons).

    He is a recognised expert in beneficial ownership disclosure and provides technical assistance to governments and government agencies introducing measures to tackle corruption, money laundering and other financial crimes, and has worked with jurisdictions across four continents. In collaboration with Tim Law, he co-developed the BO6 framework for the design and implementation of beneficial ownership reporting regimes. He is an expert to the Council of Europe Economic Crime and Cooperation Division and the EU AML/CFT Global Facility and has been a member of the B20 Integrity and Compliance Taskforce.     A corporate tax partner, Cathy is part of Mercer & Hole's team of business tax specialists providing assistance and support to clients across the firm.

    Mala is a Chartered Tax Adviser and non-practising Solicitor and Accountant. She trained with a top ten professional services firm where she worked in the tax investigations department and gained experience in a wide range of personal and corporate taxes. She joined the tax investigations team at a boutique tax consultancy and developed her portfolio before moving to a tax investigations firm.

    Mala specialises in preparation of disclosures to HMRC and resolution of tax enquiries and CoP8 and 9 Investigations. She has experience in a range of situations – self-employment, property, owner managed businesses, non-UK domiciled individuals – and taxes; direct income taxes as well as PAYE, VAT and SDLT.

    She is a well-known tax author, having had several articles published by the professional press including Taxation Magazine, Bloomsbury Professional and Tax Adviser. She also regularly lectures online and in person for the CIOT, AAT, ICAEW and CIMA, including at CIOT and CIMA conferences.

    Mala was a finalist in the “Best Rising Star in Tax” category as part of Tolleys Taxation Awards 2020. The Awards are known for identifying excellence in tax. Being shortlisted for the award demonstrates Mala’s commitment to the tax profession as well as her technical excellence as supported by testimonials from clients and other tax experts.

    Mala founded the London Tax Society in 2017 and actively encourages networking and technical development for young professionals.
