    Biography:

    James Kessler KC is particularly interested in taxation of foreign domiciliaries, offshore entities of all kinds, and trusts, wills and charities. Other interests include prosecution of tax crime in complex cases, particularly along the avoidance/evasion faultline, and freedom of information.

    James has practiced as a barrister since 1985 and was appointed QC in 2003. He is also a member of the Bar of Northern Ireland.

    He is in Band 1 in Chambers Directory in the Private Client Tax category, with a reference to "acumen and remarkable thoroughness of thought".

    James is one of the founders of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners, for whom he drafted the STEP Standard Provisions, and a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Taxation.

    James has received the Geoffrey Shindler Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Profession (STEP Private Client Awards, 2011).

    Biography:

    He is a former senior HM Inspector of Taxes having also worked at EY prior to joining Mazars LLP in 2008

    Jon specialises in supporting clients through all types of disputes with HMRC ranging from ad hoc technical queries through to allegations of fraud and criminal investigations. He acts for corporates, entrepreneurs and high net worth individuals.  Jon also provides support for clients to identify and address their tax risks including their obligations under the Senior Accounting Officer and Corporate Criminal Offence regimes.

    Latterly Jon has supported clients to address the challenges of HMRC’s approach to participation in tax avoidance schemes to include acting as an expert witness in claims of professional negligence.

    Jon qualified as a Chartered Tax Advisor in November 2003.

Previously Melissa was a Tax Manager in the property team at BDO where she specialised in capital allowances. She has presented on the subject at ACCA conferences and various seminars.

    After studying accountancy at the LSE, Roderick changed to the law and became a solicitor, and, until 1996, headed pension and employment law in the corporate/commercial firm KJD in Stoke-on-Trent, as the only pension law solicitor between Birmingham and Manchester. In that year he started his sole practice from home, specialising in pensions, largely helping other solicitors when they have pension law problems and need a specialist on their team or to whom to refer their clients. Roderick also contributes to New Law Journal and other LexisNexis publications. His leisure time is split between gardening, old cars and reading and writing.

    Biography:

    Amanda Collinson is head of International Tax at Johnston Carmichael, where she specialises in advising companies on cross-border tax matters.

    In particular, Amanda can provide advice on the interpretation of double tax treaties and the process of applying for reduced rates of withholding tax. Having spent two years working in New York earlier in her career, she has a focus on the interaction of US-UK tax rules. Her clients ranges from small owner-managed businesses through to large multinational groups. She is a Fellow of the ICAEW and an ADIT Affiliate.

    Biography:

    Chris joined the Tolley Exam Training team in 2012 to teach on a range of tax exam courses including ATT and CTA.

    Chris started his career with Deloitte where he qualified as a chartered accountant and then progressed to do his CTA exams where he was a Stanley Spofforth Medal winner.  He then spent a number of years with Kaplan.

    Chris is a well-known personality in the tax world, particularly in the North-East, where he has taught tax on a wide range of exam courses and CPD events. He was a committee member of the North East Branch of the Chartered Institute of Taxation (having previously been Chairman).

    He teaches mainly on Taxation of Individuals and Owner Managed Businesses and is Head of the Newcastle centre.

    Adam is a partner and head of the Tax Disputes Resolution team at RPC LLP.     Adam has over thirty years’ experience in the contentious tax field, 16 years of which was spent at the Solicitor’s Office of HMRC.     David Everett, is the head of the Pensions Research team at LCP. One of his key roles is to analyse and communicate regulatory and professional developments to audiences both within and outside LCP.

    Duncan has nearly 30 years experience in corporate tax, working for a number of Big 4 firms and in the UK, Guernsey and The Netherlands.  He has always had a particular interest in international tax issues.

    ATT, CTA and ADIT qualified, he has been a full-time tax lecturer since 2007 and joined Tolley in 2016 after spending nine years at EY in their Corporate Tax Training department.  Whilst at EY he was the lead tutor on international tax and successfully completed his ADIT qualification.

    He is an engaging lecturer and a firm believer that ADIT represents a hugely valuable qualification in a globalised world.

    He teaches ATT, CTA and ADIT including experience of teaching ADIT in Cyprus.
