    Biography:

    Niall MacDonald is a Group Partner in the Dispute Resolution department in Appleby’s Jersey office.

    He advises on all types of commercial dispute and has extensive advocacy experience ranging from representing clients regarding trusts and multi-jurisdictional issues (before the Royal Court of Jersey and Court of Appeal) to resolving local employment disputes (before the Jersey Employment and Discrimination Tribunal).

    The cases which he has resolved over the last 15 years have involved a broad range of other areas of the law (including company, contract, criminal, data protection, insolvency, insurance, planning, professional negligence and regulatory); and in 2015 he was awarded the Junior Lawyer of the Year by the Law Society of Jersey with its President noting that Niall stands out having “represented clients in a wide range of litigation issues … achieving consistently good results.”

    With more than 14 years of experience, Kennya is currently a Senior Tax Consultant at Ecovis Mexico, since 2008. She specializes in local and international tax consulting, preparation of legal opinions, implementation of tax structures, business restructuring, representation of taxpayers in tax audits. In addition to having extensive experience in obtaining confirmations of criteria and negotiation of agreements with the Mexican Tax Authorities (SAT) and PRODECON (taxpayer defense prosecutor's office) and tax litigation, in accordance with the means of defense provided for in the Mexican Legislation.

    Law graduate from the Universidad Tecnológica de México, she has specializations in Tax Law and International Tax Law from the same institution and from the Universidad Panamericana, respectively.

    She has also taught tax litigation at the Facultad de Estudios Superiores Aragón of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, in the field of tax litigation.

    Papa Bathie Gueye holds the US CPA and a Master of Science in Taxation from the Lubin School of Business at Pace University in New York. With professional experience both in the United States and the OHADA region, he manages a team of 24 professionals at the public accounting firm located in Senegal with reach in most of Francophone West Africa. As a member of the AICPA since 2012 and the Chartered Accountancy Board of Senegal (ONECCA) since 2014 Papa has extensive experience in the accounting, tax and legal landscape.

    Papa is bilingual in French and English, and is well-versed in both Senegalese and US accounting standards and tax laws, as well as international tax. He is also familiar with US GAAP and IFRS, and was a speaker at the 2017 African Congress Of Accountants (ACOA) in Uganda where he discussed the implementation of IFRS standards in Africa.

    By working for an international accounting network in Senegal for almost a decade Papa has represented clients large and small and has been instrumental in supporting many branches and subsidiaries of foreign companies navigate the uncertain and changing landscape of tax law in West Africa.

    Papa has hands-on experience with local administrative procedures and legislation affecting clients in the oil and gas industry, telecommunications, infrastructure, financial services and NGO sectors, and prides himself on staying ahead of the law’s frequent changes.

    Sophie is a very well known tax lecturer and writer and has been involved in ATT and CTA training for over 25 years with a reputation for giving clear, enthusiastic lectures.

    Sophie is known for always having time to help students - whether in choosing which combination of CTA papers to sit and in which order or helping with technical queries.

    Sophie started her career as a Chartered Accountant in the tax department of the London office of Andersen, qualifying in 1994 and winning prizes at every sitting of her ACA examinations.

    She discovered her passion for lecturing through her involvement with internal tax training courses at Andersen and thereafter decided to pursue a full time training role, joining BPP Taxation Courses in 1996. Whilst at BPP Sophie passed her CTA examinations with distinction and was awarded the prize for the Personal Tax paper.

    Sophie was CTA Course Director at BPP for some years before moving to Tolley in 2003. Sophie is one of the original members of the team who started the tax exam training business within Tolley.
