    Sophie is a very well known tax lecturer and writer and has been involved in ATT and CTA training for over 25 years with a reputation for giving clear, enthusiastic lectures.

    Sophie is known for always having time to help students - whether in choosing which combination of CTA papers to sit and in which order or helping with technical queries.

    Sophie started her career as a Chartered Accountant in the tax department of the London office of Andersen, qualifying in 1994 and winning prizes at every sitting of her ACA examinations.

    She discovered her passion for lecturing through her involvement with internal tax training courses at Andersen and thereafter decided to pursue a full time training role, joining BPP Taxation Courses in 1996. Whilst at BPP Sophie passed her CTA examinations with distinction and was awarded the prize for the Personal Tax paper.

    Sophie was CTA Course Director at BPP for some years before moving to Tolley in 2003. Sophie is one of the original members of the team who started the tax exam training business within Tolley. She is in charge of the updating of the material for both the distance learning and revision courses and the audio-visual lectures which Tolley provide to ATT and CTA students. Her knowledge of the way in which tax is examined across CTA is unrivalled.

    Victoria joined Tolley Exam Training in 2007 from PwC where she was a Tax Manager concentrating mainly on multinational corporates before joining the firm's National Tax Training team where she guided students through their professional examinations including ATT, CTA and ICAEW.

    Victoria also wrote and delivered in-house technical training programmes. These programmes were designed to fit the needs of both students and the business, complementing the professional examinations studies and providing real on-the-job insights to equip students with the right skills to succeed back in the office.

    Victoria qualified with PwC, previously having experience with KPMG and industry in both corporate compliance and advisory roles. Victoria likes to use this breadth of experience to bring practical illustration to the training room to help students not only understand the tax legislation, but to see how and why the rules are used in practice.

    Andrew Clarke is a Director in Deloitte’s UK Indirect Tax practice working in the firm’s Cambridge and London offices.

    Having previously worked for HM Revenue & Customs as a VAT inspector, Andrew has 27 years of experience in indirect tax, the last 25 years of which have been spent in practice advising clients in a wide range of industries and market sectors.

    Andrew leads Deloitte’s Indirect Tax Policy & Trade Group and also assists with the indirect tax training curriculum. This work includes the analysis of case law developments and HMRC guidance, working with HMRC on policy development, the production of technical material and identification of opportunities for the wider indirect tax practice, and the delivery of both internal technical courses and a wide range of external client events, including Deloitte’s VAT Club and VAT School.

    Andrew has a wealth of experience across a broad range of VAT matters and in facilitating/delivering training. This enables him to articulate technical issues in a way such that both other members of the indirect tax practice and non-specialist indirect tax attendees at external events can understand, both in respect of the technical intricacies, as well as the practical implications that these have in respect of day-to-day operations.

    Adam is a partner and head of the Tax Disputes Resolution team at RPC LLP. He is an accredited mediator who advises on a wide range of contentious tax issues (direct and indirect), including HMRC enquiries and tax litigation.     Adam has over thirty years’ experience in the contentious tax field, 16 years of which was spent at the Solicitor’s Office of HMRC.     Lisa-Jane joined Tolley in 2010 to write and lecture on corporate and international tax matters, with a particular focus on the papers for the Advanced Diploma in International Tax (ADIT) offered by the UK Chartered Institute of Taxation.

    A graduate from the University of St Andrews, Lisa-Jane completed her Masters Degree in Law at City University and went into private practice as a barrister (Lincoln's Inn) before training in tax with KPMG at their Tax Business School. Once qualfied as a Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) Lisa-Jane worked as a tax lawyer in the City, undertaking predominantly cross-border transaction work and banking, before joining EY in 2004 to work offshore in the Channel Islands. Whilst working there she sat the ADIT exams and gained her international tax diploma.

    When Lisa-Jane moved back to London she decided to use her overseas experience by teaching the Principles of International Tax, Transfer Pricing, UK and European Union options for the ADIT qualification, as well as the AT TOMC and APS TOLC papers for the CTA exams. Lisa-Jane also writes for the Tolley Corporation Tax Annual.

    After being called to the Bar of England and Wales (Lincoln’s Inn, 2011), Jivaan began his career in the Tax and Legal Services team of a Big4 accounting firm in the Caribbean, where he managed the tax and commercial disputes portfolio.

    He retrained and qualified as a solicitor into the corporate tax team of Linklaters LLP (London). His tax practice primarily entails advising on potentially contentious legal issues (tax and commercial) in the context of cross-border M&A, corporate reorganisations and finance transactions, as well as assisting clients in resolving tax disputes with tax authorities, including representation before the relevant tribunals and courts.

    Jivaan regularly advises clients in a range of sectors, spanning private equity and financial sponsors, financial institutions, fintech, consumer goods, energy and sports. Jivaan has a fervent interest in legislative policy development in developing countries, especially as it relates to international taxation and commercial law.

    Current and past projects in this respect include:

    (i) advising the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) on the drafting of three model Bills relating to company, insolvency and partnership laws;

    (ii) advising a state on its tax reforms to comply with OECD requirements to facilitate removal from the grey list; and

    (iii) developing and delivery tax training to the tax authority of a state’s tax authority on international tax law issues, including double tax treaties and transfer pricing. Jivaan is a member of Linklaters’ Latin America Group and is Head of the Linklaters Caribbean Desk. Outside of practice, Jivaan is a visiting lecturer at King’s College London on the International Tax Law LLM, where he lectures on the International Tax Law and the EU Tax Law modules and supervises dissertations related to these topics.
