    Biography:

    Sarah started her career as a Chartered Accountant working for Coopers and Lybrand, Birmingham in first audit and then tax, winning prizes in her ACA exams. Sarah quickly realised that her vocation was in training and after doing some internal tax training at Coopers joined BPP in 1993 where she was able to take a full time training role. She helped to establish a new BPP training office in Birmingham in 1993. Moving North in 1996 Sarah was involved again in opening another successful BPP training centre in Glasgow.

    Sarah taught both accountancy and tax courses for all professional qualifications at BPP in Glasgow until 2010 where she was also responsible for managing and delivery of the ATT and CTA programme .She has gained an excellent reputation for her clear, informed and enthusiastic tax lectures.

    Having sat the CTA exams in 2009, again winning prizes across the board; in 2010, Sarah joined the Tolley Exam Training team and is now involved in both writing and teaching across the CTA and ATT Qualifications. Sarah is now based at our Newcastle location.

As the Head of the Tax Department at Andersen Ballão Advocacia, she leads a team of professionals advising on a wide range of tax matters, including corporate taxes, national and cross-border transactions, VAT, and tax disputes.

    Barbara specialises in tax planning, M&A transactions, consultancy, and resolving complex tax litigation, with extensive experience advising multinational companies, individuals, and various industries, including technology, retail, oil and gas, and finance. Her expertise extends to key areas such as international tax structuring, transfer pricing, direct and indirect taxation, helping clients navigate the complex Brazilian tax system.

    She holds bachelor's degrees in Law from UNICURITIBA and in Accounting Science from the Federal University of Paraná. Barbara also obtained a Master of Laws (LLM) in Domestic Taxation from the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR), and an LLM in International Tax Law, with distinction, from Queen Mary University of London. In recognition of her academic achievements, she was awarded the prestigious Chevening Scholarship for 2022/23.

    In addition to her legal practice, Barbara is a published author and a frequent speaker at national and international conferences.     Biography:

    Biography:

    John is a Chartered Accountant and Chartered Tax Advisor, who trained with one of EY’s predecessor firms. That training contract was followed by a long career at EY, specialising in integrated US/UK income, capital, and estate tax planning.

    Part of that practice at EY involved advising international professional partnerships conducting business in the UK. Expertise in this specialist area led to John being recruited to go ‘in-house’ with one of the leading US law firms and spending eight years as Regional Tax Director (EMEA) for White & Case. This was followed by a return to public practice, first with Frank Hirth and latterly with Blick Rothenberg.

    John is a member of both HMRC’s Expat Tax Forum and HMRC’s Expat/NIC Strategy Group. He has lectured extensively on US tax topics. His publishing credits include being a member of the writing team on “A Guide to the UK/US Tax Treaty” (LexisNexis 2003), and a past contributor to the ‘Working in the UK’ and ‘Working Overseas’ sections of Tolley’s Tax Planning.  John has also had articles published in “Tax Planning International Review”, “Tax Management International Journal” and “The BNA Daily Tax Report”.

    Outside work, John’s interests include photography, fly fishing, playing tournament bridge and learning to play the piano.

    Biography:

    Duncan has nearly 30 years experience in corporate tax, working for a number of Big 4 firms and in the UK, Guernsey and The Netherlands.  He has always had a particular interest in international tax issues.

    ATT, CTA and ADIT qualified, he has been a full-time tax lecturer since 2007 and joined Tolley in 2016 after spending nine years at EY in their Corporate Tax Training department.  Whilst at EY he was the lead tutor on international tax and successfully completed his ADIT qualification.

    He is an engaging lecturer and a firm believer that ADIT represents a hugely valuable qualification in a globalised world.

    He teaches ATT, CTA and ADIT including experience of teaching ADIT in Cyprus.

    Biography:

    Liz started her career with EY in Bristol in 1992, where she passed the AAT exams and then trained as a Certified Accountant. Once qualified, she became involved in the recruitment and internal training of graduate accounting and tax trainees at EY. She joined BPP Bristol as a tutor in 1999 and passed CTA in May 2007, winning The Ian Walker Medal for the highest mark in Paper I.

    Over her last 5 years at BPP Liz managed Bristol Tax Courses, taught across a broad range of qualifications and subject areas and wrote materials for CTA, ATT and ICAEW exams.

    Liz joined Tolley Exam Training in 2012 as a tutor and a writer. Liz is head of the Bristol Centre and provides an unrivalled level of service to local clients and students, and manages the learning resource nationally.

    Liz still loves being in the classroom, and teaches across the CTA and ATT qualifications.

    Josephine Matambo is the Tax Partner at PKF Chartered Accountants (Zimbabwe) responsible for managing the Tax Service Line. She is a fellow of the Institute of Certified Tax Accountants (ICTA) Zimbabwe and also of the Zimbabwe Institute of Tax Accountants (ZITA). She is a registered tax practitioner with the Public Accountants and Auditors Board (PAAB) Zimbabwe.


    She holds a Masters degree in Business Administration (University of Zimbabwe), Bachelor of Accountancy degree (University of Zimbabwe), and a Tax Administration Certificate (Royal Institute of Public Administration- UK), among other professional and tertiary qualifications. She has an illustrious career history that started in 1981 with the Tax Department in the Government of Zimbabwe where she rose to Assistant Commissioner of Taxes.


    Josephine held senior posts in various other accounting firms including being a tax partner at KPMG Angola. She has been an Associate Director in Tax at PwC Zimbabwe and held senior positions in KPMG Mozambique, Coopers & Lybrand/Ernst & Young Zimbabwe and BDO Kudenga & Co Zimbabwe.

     

    She studied VAT systems in South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia, Uganda, Mozambique, Kenya and New Zealand, while she was one of the four consultants to the Zimbabwean Government in 1998 to study the then existing indirect tax, propose a VAT system and participate in drafting the VAT law upon introduction of VAT in Zimbabwe. Thereafter she provided VAT consultancy to the Parliament of Zimbabwe and to industrial and commercial bodies in Zimbabwe, as well as VAT training to companies throughout Zimbabwe and established herself as the VAT expert in Zimbabwe at that time. Josephine has tax experience in all sectors in Angola, Mozambique and Zimbabwe.

    Sean is an independent specialist with 25 years of experience in stamp duty, including 20 years at two Big Four firms. He served as the head of UK stamp taxes at a Big Four firm for five years. Currently, he is the chair of the professional body of stamp duty practitioners, The Stamp Taxes Practitioners Group, which has over 220 members. In addition to his professional roles, Sean is the editor and author of the leading textbook Sergeant and Sims on Stamp Taxes, a position he has held since 2008. He also authored the Law Society’s SDLT Handbook: A Guide for Residential Conveyancers. Sean is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Taxation and a non-practising barrister.
